Winter wonderland
Sweden is beautiful with snow everywhere. When I wake in the morning the light that streams in my room is so bright that I think it must be sunny outside. And then I look out the window and see grey skies, but it’s okay, because the snow is so stunning in itself that it makes up for no sun.
I’ve been back in Uppsala for two days now. When I arrived Wednesday night, I was so tired, so tired that I couldn’t sleep. And I felt homesick, which was due to being tired. Thursday when I woke up I felt refreshed, ready to begin the next semester, travel, and have new experiences. No homesickness, thankfully. I hate that feeling, it’s possibly the worst.
Håkan texted me and woke me up Thursday morning, asking if I wanted to have tea. While we were having tea I saw Lisa, Matt and Jacob, which was fun to see them! Then I went into my room and unpacked and showered and lazed around fighting the urge to sleep more.
There is a new girl in my corridor, I have no idea what her name is. But last night I saw her for the first time. Håkan and I were making tea and David was working on an essay in the common room, and she walked in and started making herself something to eat. I wasn’t sure who she was, but obviously I figured she was the new girl. She seemed preoccupied with what she was doing and Håkan and David weren’t like “hey, this is the new girl!” Håkan just continued talking to me and so I was like, okay, I’ll just wait for her to introduce herself.
So then we’re sitting in the common room chatting in English, and she needed to get by to get to the freezer room, and of course she spoke in Swedish and held a little conversation (or so it seemed from my end, seeing as I can’t understand Swedish). But it was kind of weird. Because we were all chatting in English, which obviously meant that one of us did not speak Swedish, so I thought it was maybe a little rude? Not that I expect everyone to cater to me because I don’t speak Swedish. Maybe she didn’t know I lived in the corridor? That was probably it. Next time I see her I’ll have to introduce myself.
Hmmmmm. The things I ponder.
Since coming back I haven’t done much. Yesterday I didn’t eat a lot. I had an apple for breakfast and didn’t eat again until dinner. Mabel and I went to ICA together (she’s back too!), and while there I saw Susanne and Laura also shopping, so we all chatted and shopped and then walked back to our building together. It’s nice to see everyone again!
For dinner last night I made pasta with steamed veggies. And that was all I ate. Then me and Håkan were watching How I Met Your Mother, and it was the episode where they were trying to find the perfect burger in New York, and oh my god now I really, really want a cheeseburger! But I’m trying to eat healthy after going home and eating like a pig (and I gained two, yes TWO kilos while I was home!), so no burger for me.
Today I woke up with a massive headache at 9am. Since then I have done literally nothing and now I’m wondering how on earth it is already almost noon?
xoxo.

Hi Jessy! It’s been months since I last commented (I lost the link for your blog, oops) but just wanted to say that I’m so glad you seem to be having such a good experience, making so many friends. I think the last time I was here, you were really struggling with homesickness and contemplating not returning for this semester. Enjoy it!
