Internet?
Hello internet world, Jessica has internet again. I have spent the last week completely disconnected with the blogging world, and it may take me some time to catch up.
I am lucky to have an awesome international buddy who gave me her password for the internet. A quick trip to Claus Ohlsson’s to buy an ethernet cable and I’m connected! Woo!
Still no bike for me. I know, I suck. I procrastinate even in Sweden. However, this kind of procrastination has dire consequences… the longer I wait the more money I will spend on a bike. So bike buying is on the agenda for tomorrow.
I got my temporary nation’s card from Vastgota Nation the other day, so I have been spending some time at the nations. NEVER get a quesadilla from Norrlands… not unless you want to eat something that resembles and tastes like puke.
Been having a good time, but whenever I’m alone in my room I get super depressed and homesick. When I am with other people I am fine though. I spent almost two hours Skyping with my mom today after I got the password from Elaine.
I’m all signed up and registered for classes, and have nothing of any importance to do until next Tuesday. Except, of course, I need to get a bike.
I would like to do some sightseeing around Uppsala. I have a list of things to do that I got from the tourist office. I would also like to go on a day trip to Stockholm.
Someone in my building is having a corridor party. I can hear the music!
Well I better shut up now because I’m super tired, and tired plus writing equals crap. So I’ll blog later!

Still no internet
Still no internet. Everyone I know here has a new Swedish SIM card and we all don´t have each others number. Which sucks. But last night I went to SNerikes Nation and had a cider thing with Laura, then we tried to get into Norrlands but they wouldn´t let me in without a guest card, so instead we sat on their front steps and watched the American Car Show. And I saw a guy pee in the street. And yes, I got a picture. Which you will see as soon as I stop using Burger King´s computers. Yes, Burger King has computers, not wifi. Both mine and Laura’s computer are incompatible with Swedish wifi.
So anyway, more later. But I’m getting my guest card tomorrow for the nations, and life will be a lot more exciting then. Although I’m not sure how much more exciting you can get then seeing a old man pee in the middle of the street. Just saying.
Loving Sweden though. I love the language. I love H&M. I love how pretty it is with all the trees. I love how peaceful it is.
More to come!

In Uppsala
Hej, blog readers. I made it into Stockholm yesterday around 10:30am, walking around with all of my bags was PATHETIC to say the least. I packed way too much and couldn’t carry it all! You would have loved to see me try to get the damn things on and off the train to Uppsala.
Of course I met my internet friends from facebook at the airport, and we got to Uppsala together. After settling in our rooms we all met at central station and walked around until we found a pizza place. My stomach was unhappy all day yesterday so I didn’t eat much. Fortunately my stomach was better this morning.
I have no internet at Flogsta (where I live) until I am officially registered in classes they won’t give me my username and password. And it could take about 10 days before I get it… let’s hope not though.
I’m currently at a place called Hugo’s – which has free wifi. Laura and I walked all around Uppsala trying to find internet… we ended up at the tourist information shop and they directed us here. Burger King had computers we could use, but we really wanted to use our own laptops – Laura because she had pictures she wanted to upload on facebook.
Today we got our welcome packets and I got my Swedish SIM card, so my mom set up Rebtel so now we can talk on the cheap.
Then Elaine (my international buddy, who is from Florida but lives here) took some of us to IKEA, where I spent FAR too much money. Then we ate at IKEA, all of us got Swedish meatballs, potatoes, gravy, and some cranberry stuff. I liked it at first, but there were too many meatballs. I got kind of sick of the taste, which is what usually happens when I eat beef anyway so I wasn’t surprised. The potatoes were good though. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t eat with both a fork and a knife at the same time… which is considered a no-no in America! But is what is acceptable in Sweden, people think you’re weird if you don’t eat with your fork in the left hand and the knife in your right. They cut everything with a knife! And spread the cranberry sauce on the meatballs when squishing the meatballs in the sauce would suffice.
Yesterday I went to this hotdog stand thing because I wanted a bottle of water, and the guy didn’t speak English, so this Swedish girl waiting in line behind me ordered for me. It was nice of her, because I was thirsty and would have died of dehydration without her. So I said a very warm thank you, and instead of saying your welcome she shifted her eyes away from me and got stiff.
I mean, that’s to be expected, but it kind of hurt my feelings all the same. I’ll get used to it eventually. Most other Swedes I’ve come across have been really friendly. Even on the plane from Philadelphia to Sweden, I sat next to this elderly couple who talked to me a lot! I was so surprised! I thought the elderly didn’t speak English, but I guess I came across the minority.
Anyway, got to go. Laura and I are going to Max’s for dinner. Swedish fast food, a burger joint of sorts. I’ll let you know if it’s good.
Don’t know when I’ll come back to this coffee shop again, or if the next time I blog it will be from my room in Flogsta.
But until then,
hej da (with the little circle over the ‘a’)!

Leaving on a jet plane…
Just wanted to stop in really quickly to say that I am leaving for SWEDEN tomorrow! I know I won’t have internet right away, so it could be more than a week until I blog again, but watch for my tweets to see what I’m up to.
I leave at 8:30 am, so we have to be up and out by 5 am to make it to the airport in time. I’ll have a layover in Philadelphia from about 5 pm to 8 pm (EST! I’ve never been to the east coast!), so I may use the internet then, which means I might blog, but we’ll see.
Alright, I’m out. I make it to Sweden at 2 am PST (11 am Sweden time), so I must get all the sleep I can now! Who knows if I’ll sleep on the plane!
Will miss the internet and bloggy buddies for a few days! Can’t wait until I’ll be blogging from Uppsala Universitet!

Awards
Amazingly, I have been awarded two awards this summer… one of which was given to me by two different bloggers (and this was at least a month ago!). It surprises me to no end whenever I get an award, and it makes me feel maybe just a teeny bit special
. So thank you to the bloggers that gave these awards to me!
The first was awarded to me by Jenn and Jeanette.

Instructions: “The HonestScrap award comes with a caveat or two. Firstly, you have to tell your readers ten things about you they may not know, but that are true. Secondly, you have to tag 10 people with the award.”
Okay, here goes!
- I’m afraid of bees. When we went camping last weekend, the nasty little things decided to join us for breakfast, and needless to say I was hiding behind my dad and running all over the campsite to get away from them!
- I actually enjoy school. Is that weird?
- I love going on airplanes!
- I love traveling.
- I’m not a fan of ice in my water or drinking without a straw in a restaurant.
- The TV show “Kings” is awesome. Most of the biblical references go straight over my head, but it’s still probably one of the best shows I have ever seen. I really wish they would pick it up for a second season, but I guess the show is too expensive and not enough people are watching to cover the costs. Or something.
- I’m an atheist. But I never judge or try to convince others that my way of thinking is right… because I could be wrong. You could be wrong. Who knows? We should all respect what others believe and personally know to be true. End of story.
- I’m a night owl.
- I have a lead foot when I’m driving. I’ve never gotten a ticket, however I have been pulled over. The cop let me go!
- I’m obsessed with taking care of my teeth. Brush and floss, everyday.
The second comes from Jamie. It is the “One Lovely Blog Award.”

Instructions: “All you have to do is save the picture and add it to your blog, then give the award to 15 of your favorite bloggers. Be sure to comment on their posts to let them know they have an award!”
I’m going to deviate from this, and only because I’ve come to the realization that I don’t know 15 bloggers! Okay, maybe I do, but I don’t consistently read 15 different blogs. I read, like, five blogs on a daily basis.
So, this is what I want you to do. If you lurk here, or if this is your first time reading my blog, leave a comment letting me know what your blog is about and why it is “lovely.” In a few weeks if I have had a good response, I will go through all of the comments and read your blogs, and pick my favorite 15 and honor you with this award. And if I haven’t gotten a good response, I will still read your blog, and award as many people (up to 15) with the “One Lovely Blog Award.”
This is a great way for me, and also others, to become avid readers of your blog… so comment away!
Ready, set, go!
